PassengersPassengers (2008)

IMDB rating: 5.80

Plot: After a plane crash, a young therapist, Claire (Anne Hathaway), is assigned by her mentor (Andre Braugher) to counsel the flight’s five survivors. When they share their recollections of the incident — which some say include an explosion that the airline claims never happened — Claire is intrigued by Eric (Patrick Wilson), the most secretive of the passengers. Just as Claire’s professional relationship with Eric — despite her better judgment — blossoms into a romance, the survivors begin to disappear mysteriously, one by one. Claire suspects that Eric may hold all the answers and becomes determined to uncover the truth, no matter the consequences.

What are the weight distribution rules for passengers on helicopters?
For example, does it matter where the heavier passengers sit?

You can download a pdf from the FAA called the Aircraft Weight and Balance Handbook: FAA-H-8083-1 for free.

The non-technical answer is: yes it does matter. Heavier passengers should be loaded in the center to allow for better control in flight and hover. The maximum weight has to do with the structural integrity of the helicopter and the amount of power available from the powerplant.

yes it matters the weight has to be evenly distributed according to the center of gravity(comnoly refered to as the C/G). If you are just a passenger this will make no sense to you.

just don’t put all the fat people on one side.
qtrn2005 | Oct 16, 2006

Sure it matters. You want the chubs and chubbettes seated as close to the center of gravity as they can be.

The center of gravity is directly under the main rotor shaft. Assuming they are not the pilot…the closest passenger seat to that area rules.

Really depends on the helicopter. if it’s a 2 seater, you don’t have much choice do you? If it’s something like a Bell 204/5, 212/412 (the Huey), it really doesn’t make a difference.
Now if I were loading a very heavy object I would put it close to the CG (which in this case would be the back toward the Xmission and centered in the cargo compartment).
It’s a little hard (but not impossible) to get out of CG on a helicopter with just passengers.

heaviest to the center of the craft

you do your best to load evenly, if you do have a "heavy person" this person should sit as close to centerline as possible.
just so long as you are within your load parameters vs fuel and length of trip, you just load as evenly as possible.

Yes, it matters. Rotary wing aircraft (helicopters) are a bit more complicated for W&B (Weight and Balance) than fixed wing aircraft because, since the wing does rotate, lateral (side-to-side)W&B considerations become more critical. One way to ensure safety is, as previously noted, to keep heavier people/cargo close to the centerline of the aircraft as possible. Another is simply to be sure that items are ‘balanced out’.

If someone posts an incendiary Question is it best to give your view or report?
For instance on racism or sexism or a unethical hate mongering view of an event?
I tend to give them an answer with a hope to lessen hatreds
As i say I don’t see the point of report WHY NOT let your opinions be heard

i prefer to argue the point instead of reporting.I hate it when i’m in mid battle and the question is deleted.

Give sensible answers, but report trolling or illegal incitement or ranting.
Ed | Apr 16, 2008

I prefer to hit the question with a counter argument myself but if it is just abuse of someone I just press the report button.
Utopia OR Bust (aka Tank) | Apr 16, 2008

IZ give my view, then I report.
pegasus | Apr 16, 2008

To each his/her own I say we don’t have to agree but we all have the right to express our views-agree with you
Plato | Apr 16, 2008

Why would you want to report it? If you do not like a question then ignore it
SAM | Apr 16, 2008

Actually I’m getting used to the block function and that nice report flag, but only when absolutely necessaey.
Its best if it makes you angry, I find to move on to something else, or if you must answer do so in a polite way.

I generally agree with both you and all the answers, kind of a first for me!
larry | Apr 16, 2008

If you don’t like it just ignore it. The poster is probably just looking for a response and you’re not going to do anything about changing their views.

However, if the post is something that could be harmful (like a joke about rape or genocide) then report it. My view is anyone who has suffered something like this personally will be hurt by seeing it so it should be removed.
CC | Apr 16, 2008

I either answer or ignore. I tried to answer a non offensive question before, only for it to say community care had to remove it. (like it was protecting me or something)
Kerry | Apr 16, 2008

I’ll generally ignore. Reporting is the last choice, very rare for me.
Ern T | Apr 16, 2008

Me, too. I ain’t no tattletale.
Pam N | Apr 16, 2008

i don’t thonk people should be allowed to post questions such as those you describe and not be challenged by a balanced counter argument

just because they are loud and aggressive does not mean they should not be challenged

i think it is naive to think hatreds will be lessened because by the timethey post questions of this nature there is very little chance of them seeing the other side to a story

i just don’t see why they should get away with it ….

reported if they are offensive or threatening …..

"…INCENDIARY ……… Question" ???
report it to the fire brigade instead, mate.

Seriously, the best thing to do is to give them your best answer by giving your view. That is democracy and the associated free speech and freedom of thought.
Red-Chrome | Apr 16, 2008

Reporting it.
Will it solve the misery without a solution?
Expose the ATM is "Out of service"
That read "It does not compute"
Giving views.
One try to come up with a solution.
So others can take a peek.
To see if it will work
Trying to make it to the home-run with the solution.
If not.
Just chuck it into the "Out" waste basket.
No harms done.
But clubbing another one?
One will try to outsmart with a "Punch and Judy" show.
